LIBERAL REALMS

This project is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment with a spacious dual-living area. Its original layout benefits from excellent natural lighting. The public zone adopts an open and transparent spatial arrangement, aligned along a single axis to visually connect the living, dining, and reading areas. This linear layout opens up diverse possibilities for spatial interaction—extending beyond aesthetics into thoughtful spatial planning—allowing natural light to flow seamlessly between public and private zones. The play of light and shadow brings nuanced expression to the interior. At its core, the design aims to a refined and versatile lifestyle, fostering dynamic interaction between visual and spatial elements from the inside out.
Upon entering, the designer carefully interprets the client's vision of spatial freedom. The entryway, living room, study, and dining area are free from physical partitions, and decorative elements are intentionally minimized. This allows the eye to be drawn immediately to the expansive and uncluttered public area, highlighted by large floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. In response to the homeowner’s desire for a simple, decoration-free environment, the design was consistently simplified throughout the process—highlighting the purity of form through the use of understated materials. The result is a serene and relaxing home, with a natural, unadorned atmosphere that reflects the owner’s ideal of an honest, grounded space.
Different zones are subtly defined by changes in flooring materials. The wood flooring in the living room extends into the private areas to unify the space, while pale wood tones, crisp white walls, dark metal accents, and subdued concrete textures an elegant yet understated palette. The absence of overly ornate detailing lends the space a modern, composed character. In the dining area, a monochromatic black-and-white scheme is established. A bold, dark-toned island contrasts against a lighter, warm wood dining table—this contrast emphasizes balance and tension. A linear pendant light above the island enhances spatial layering and visual depth. The kitchen is enclosed with sliding glass doors, providing transparency while also serving to contain cooking fumes. The vertical pattern on the glass adds a subtle sense of privacy without compromising openness.
There is no obvious division between the reading nook and the living room; instead, a ceiling beam naturally defines the boundary between the two. The storage wall in the reading area is designed in white to minimize its visual weight. A recessed base allows the unit to appear as if floating, maintaining lightness while providing generous storage. Vertical grooves on the cabinet doors add refined detail, introducing a playful element into the reading space.
The guest room serves as both accommodation for visiting friends and storage for personal belongings. To meet the client's storage needs while preserving a clean aesthetic, full-height cabinetry is integrated into the walls, with portions softened by concrete-effect paint for a more subdued tone. In the parents’ room, the wood flooring extends up the wall and across the ceiling, wrapping the space in warm tones. The headboard wall features a rhythmic pattern of linear solids and voids, while the TV wall juxtaposes raw wood textures with rugged stone-like finishes, creating a rustic, natural atmosphere with contrasting tactile and visual sensations.
The master bedroom is anchored in white, with dividing lines on the main wall adding a sense of refinement while cleverly mitigating the pressure of overhead beams. This also provides additional storage while maintaining layout integrity. Light wood tones are echoed across the headboard wall, closet doors, and wardrobe surfaces—introducing warmth and focal points into the otherwise white space.
Statement furniture pieces were carefully selected for their sculptural qualities. Brass-toned accents reflect off wood textures, bringing a hint of raw elegance to the otherwise serene space—creating harmony without pretense.
The open layout of the public area extends seamlessly toward the balcony, creating a fluid indoor-outdoor transitional space. Sunlight becomes a key element that defines the public realm, imbuing the interior with natural warmth and vibrancy. The abundant daylight is balanced with interior lighting to enhance spatial ambiance. Thoughtful lighting arrangements ensure light softly spills into every corner, uniting the entire apartment.
The interior color scheme is grounded in white, accented by light wood textures and subtle concrete finishes. The wood grain introduces a natural sensibility, while the gentle neutral palette enhances the space’s overall tranquility. Furniture selections in black, white, and grey echo the minimalist tone, emphasizing purity and clarity. The space expresses a philosophy of organic minimalism.
Overall, the design embraces a reductive approach—eschewing excess in favor of material honesty. White is the dominant base, allowing the beauty of each material to shine through and shaping a space that feels pure and serene. Select black iron elements introduce spatial contrast and dimension. The open-plan public zone enhances circulation, while the singular axis extends the visual field. A reading nook nestled along this line offers the homeowner a calm and restorative corner. Crisp, clean lines divide the white cabinetry wall, bringing a fresh and delicate atmosphere to the reading area. Within this unconstrained space, the white palette amplifies brightness and spaciousness, giving residents the freedom to imagine their own “fantasy world” of daily life.
