LIGHT FIELD
This project is a newly constructed apartment residence located adjacent to the Anping Harbor National Historical Scenic Area. Positioned on a high floor, it boasts exceptional views and abundant natural light, with multiple large windows offering a 360-degree panoramic view of both the sea and the river. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to flood the space, with the ever-changing scenery outside breathing new life into the interior. The design focuses on creating a bright, comfortable, and open atmosphere, offering residents the illusion of being immersed in the surrounding natural environment.
In the public area, large sections of wooden ceiling bring a sense of warmth that softens the rawness of the exposed concrete-textured walls, balancing the cool greys of the overall space. Sunlight streams in through the many windows, gently illuminating every corner of the interior. Glass partitions further reflect and diffuse the light, allowing it to travel freely throughout the open space. This design weakens the heaviness of the darker living room tones, enhances visual depth, and extends the perception of spatial openness.
The addition of decorative furnishings introduces rich layers of color and vibrancy, energizing the atmosphere and breaking the stillness of the overall calm tone. In this way, people, objects, and environments harmoniously complement one another. The deliberate use of line divisions and material transitions delineates functional areas within the space. Changes in flooring and wall materials subtly narrate the different spatial stories and cultural nuances of each zone.
The bar and dining table are integrated into a single layout, forming a hospitable space for entertaining guests. A titanium-plated pendant light adds a sophisticated highlight, using material contrast to enrich spatial layering. The combination of wood grain and marble—both natural elements—coexists harmoniously, creating a balanced fusion of softness and strength. This dynamic relationship adds warmth to the raw elements, ultimately presenting a gentle yet minimal style.
Natural daylight, being the most comfortable light source for the human eye, plays a central role in the spatial design. To maximize its presence, the living room, kitchen, and study are seamlessly connected with an open-plan layout free of physical partitions. This not only expands the visual scale of the space but also allows light to permeate every corner. Furniture and cabinetry are treated as sculptural pieces, elevated by targeted lighting that brings an artistic, cultured atmosphere to the interiors.
The master bedroom is expressed through a clean, white palette, contrasting the understated elegance of the public areas. The transition between these zones is immediately felt upon entry. With half of the bedroom walls composed of floor-to-ceiling windows, cabinetry is intentionally minimized to avoid blocking natural light. This allows sunlight to flow freely, softly enveloping the room and creating a serene, relaxing ambiance.
Minimal wall decor and an abundance of white surfaces eliminate unnecessary visual distractions. Rooted in simplicity, the design favors natural materials and avoids overly complex finishes. The result is a sensory experience that is comfortable and pure, exuding a clean and contemporary aesthetic.
