TRANQUILITY

The interior palette of this apartment prominently features shades of grey, seen in elements such as the TV accent wall, the headboard wall, and the fabric of the curtains. This grey tone is further extended to a green eco-friendly textured coating applied to the walls—a sustainable material innovatively made from reused silt collected from Taiwan’s reservoirs. The greys are complemented by black wood veneers, iron elements, and stone materials, which collectively highlight the texture of each material, enhancing and echoing one another.
This restrained, achromatic tranquility is sharply contrasted by a vibrant blue sofa that injects a refreshing liveliness into the space. The combination of materials achieves a harmonious and serene atmosphere, offering a sense of mental clarity and inner peace.
As a residential space, the most crucial aspect is understanding the client’s needs and daily habits. Through in-depth communication, the designer found the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.
In the public area, two large beams span the ceiling. Instead of lowering the ceiling to conceal them, the designer embraced their presence by wrapping them with special coatings and wood veneers, transforming the originally oppressive structural elements into distinctive focal points.
The marble flooring and bar counter add refined variations to the overall white tone, while the cabinetry contrasts elegantly through the use of black lacquered iron components, outlining the form of the space like contour lines. Unique, character-rich furniture pieces were selected to break away from the black-and-white theme, drawing focus to key areas and bringing definition to the layout.
At the entrance, the white walls are aligned into a flush surface, adhering to a reductive design concept that pares the space down to its essence. In the corridor, where light intermittently filters through, shadows and reflections shift across the walls, floors, and ceiling, creating a subtle dynamic that evokes presence through absence.
Responding to the client’s lifestyle of frequently hosting friends and gatherings, the space was designed to be open and expansive. Emphasis was placed on showcasing a refined design style, paired with generous windows that bring in abundant natural light—achieving a sense of openness, comfort, and brightness.
In the private areas, the focus shifts toward a calmer, more introspective ambiance. This contrast with the public zones introduces a shift in emotional tone, allowing a transitional space that encourages a sense of retreat and mental quietude.
A base of low-saturation tones establishes an understated elegance throughout the home, reflecting the resident’s composed and modest personality. Natural wood materials introduce warmth and softness, subtly enriching the serene atmosphere. Overall, the design embodies both rationality and emotion, subtly mirroring the resident’s inner world through spatial expression.
