OUT OF FRAME

This project is a two-living-room, four-bedroom, two-bath apartment. The public area features an open, fluid layout in an L-shaped configuration, creating a visual sense of interconnectedness. The central axis of the public space divides the floor plan into two wings, with the private bedrooms flanking either side. The spatial layout is highly functional and thoughtfully segmented, offering a well-balanced flow between openness and privacy.
Thanks to its wide and bright public area, the space allows for flexible design planning. The homeowners, known for their warm hospitality, often host gatherings and dinners at home. To accommodate their need for a dining area that seats many guests comfortably, this layout became a key advantage in the design strategy.
The overall color palette is grounded in cool shades of gray and white, softened by a touch of muted sage green. This gentle contrast reduces the starkness of the cooler tones while maintaining a refined, low-saturation elegance. Light is controlled using classic Western-style wooden blinds, which not only enhance the interior aesthetic but also offer practical modulation of light and airflow. The lighting design avoids excessive fixtures and instead highlights key areas with curated statement pieces—creating a harmonious balance between natural light and ambient illumination.
The final result is a simple yet distinctive American modern aesthetic. This design approach preserves spatial flexibility and adaptability, allowing the homeowners to layer in their preferred furniture pieces and personal touches over time without disrupting the visual harmony or spatial quality.
At the heart of the public area, the elongated dining table and kitchen island serve as both a functional and visual anchor. Aligned along a single axis, they guide the eye and extend the perception of space. Paired with the rotating display of the owner's art collection, they become immediate focal points. Varying floor materials help define each functional area: the use of Pandomo flooring in shared spaces creates a minimalist, earthy yet refined atmosphere that’s also easy to clean and maintain. In contrast, the kitchen features a playful mix of black, gray, and white diamond-patterned tiles, while herringbone-patterned wooden floors in the bedrooms provide warmth and comfort.
The design skillfully layers materials of similar tones but varied textures to add depth and dimension. Elements such as white-tiled walls, Silver Fox marble, titanium-coated metalwork, and gray Pandomo flooring all echo the primary gray-and-white palette, creating a cool yet serene environment. A key design language is the repeated use of a single material in various forms to enhance spatial continuity—most notably the Silver Fox marble, which is thoughtfully applied throughout different areas.
To introduce subtle individuality to the otherwise minimalist space, the designer incorporated imported gold-toned brass handles and hardware. These low-sheen metallic accents bring a quiet sophistication that enriches the overall tone of the home.
Due to frequent international travel, the homeowner has been exposed to a wide range of design styles, with a particular appreciation for American aesthetics. Instead of using ornate molding, the designer adopted clean, streamlined lines to interpret this style in a contemporary way—evoking a simple yet distinctive American residential atmosphere.
As mentioned, the homeowner placed special emphasis on the dining area. A long dining table paired with a Silver Fox marble-topped island was ultimately chosen, offering generous seating for at least eight guests. This linear arrangement not only provides a strong visual focal point and reinforces the home's spaciousness but also supports smooth, intuitive circulation. It has become a vital core space within the home—one that fosters connection and togetherness for family and friends alike.
